WE HELP ENSURE YOUR ErP 2026 READINESS

ErP 2026 is the industry shorthand for Regulation (EU) 2024/1834, the new European Ecodesign regulation for fans driven by motors with an electric input power between 125 W and 500 kW. It replaces the previous Regulation (EU) 327/2011 (often referred to as ErP 2015).

It raises efficiency requirements, looks at how fans perform across real operating conditions instead of just one point, and brings repairability and lifetime information into focus. In short, it is less about ticking boxes, and more about how fans perform and survive in real life.

WHAT ARE THE NEW EFFICIENCY TARGETS?

The efficiency bar is raised. For axial fans measured in static pressure (categories A and C), the minimum efficiency grade N increases from 40 under ErP 2015 to 50 under ErP 2026. There are specific adjustments for reversible, dual-use, and low-noise fans, but the direction is clear: fans must work harder on less energy.

What does ErP2026 mean for you?

Under ErP 2026, a fan is defined as a rotary‑bladed machine that uses one or more impellers to maintain a continuous flow of air or gas, and that is made of at least an impeller, a motor and a stator, plus any other significant elements supplied with the fan.

In other words, compliance is assessed at the level of the complete fan product as it is placed on the EU market, not at the level of standalone parts. Components such as impellers or other subassemblies will therefore typically be treated as components of a fan, not as ErP compliant products on their own.

When an incomplete fan is integrated into a device, the integrator is legally considered the fan manufacturer and is therefore responsible for compliance with ErP2026 and CE requirements.

What's this about repairability?

Among other requirements, fans must be designed for easy disassembly. Allowing key components to be removed using commonly available tools, for the benefit of recycling and material recovery. This is why Multi-Wing’s new EC drive is designed to be easily disassembled from the motor.

Do existing fans need to be replaced?

Fans that have been placed on the market or put into service before 24 July 2026 may continue to be used as part of equipment that was legally placed on the market. They are not required to be replaced on or after that date.

You also do not necessarily need to worry about spare parts or replacements. Annex II of 2024/1834 sets a specific transitional rule for spare part fans that replace fans placed on the market before 24 July 2026 or early-placed models that still follow 327/2011. These spare part fans are exempt from the new minimum efficiency requirements until 24 July 2037.

How can we help you comply?

To comply with ErP 2026, axial fans must now be tested and declared as complete fans, not just based on impeller data.

Previously, compliance could be demonstrated using impeller data from Multi-Wing’s Optimiser and calculating the N-grade via the “non-final assembly method.” Under ErP 2026, this is no longer sufficient. The regulation requires that the complete fan unit is tested, including all significant elements as defined in EN 17166, and that performance is declared at the Best Efficiency Point (BEP).
