To meet customer requirements we have invested in new machining equipment, a state-of-the-art CNC Okuma
lathe, type LT200M, including a robot and a table. The investment was necessary; first to meet a
growing demand for machined components, second to offer our customers a broader range of machining
possibilities.
The machine shop had been our focus of attention for some time as it had become a production bottleneck.
From 2006 to 2007, the production of machined components had increased by 35 % and customer needs had
become more diverse. Only by implementing new equipment, the machine shop would be able to increase its
efficiency and assure conformance to customer demands, needs and expectations.
The decision on which machining equipment to choose was carefully made. It was essential that the new
equipment would increase production capacity and that high quality would be achieved, but also that it
would ensure a broader range of machining possibilities.
The objective was to:
- improve efficiency
- increase productivity
- enhance quality
- raise technical competence
It became apparent that what was needed was a CNC Okuma lathe, type LT200M, including a robot and a table.
Insights from our production manager suggested that this machining equipment could reduce machining time,
eliminate steps in the machining process and increase range of machining possibilities.
Once installed, we saw that we had made the right decision.
The CNC Okuma lathe is ideal for our production as it completes components, fast and with high accuracy,
and provides us with machining possibilities that were previously out of reach. Furthermore, it facilitates
production, simplifies machine operations and runs around the clock with very little supervision. Finally,
it reduces cycle times by 50 % when it comes to bosses made from bar material – both aluminium and steel.
